Process Diary: Circles Part 2
WEEK 7 OF GOA FILMMAKING:
This week we continued our circles project by taking all of our films from last week and each creating our own remix of them. Here's my film from week seven:
Note: No changes this week because I have absolutely no time. Maybe I'll come back and do it later.
I
know that other people in this course have done a skill tree where they
match film to music--I think it's called "beats", but I can't remember
if it's part of the editing or sound skill tree. Anyway, my film for
this week sort of fits into the beats prompt, and I had a lot of fun
doing it. My film got me thinking that maybe I want to experiment with a
different skill tree, rather than just camera, so I can expand my
knowledge and build new skills.
I may experiment with the aforementioned editing and sound skill trees now that I have
learned that timing footage with music isn't as difficult as it seems.
Whenever I've watched films that have been matched to music, I've always
been blown away by them. However, I thought I'd try it out for this
project, and while it did take time, I learned that it is actually quite
straight forward to do.
However, one
thing I learned from my critique is that I could've made some of the
shots shorter. I kept a lot of the shots long because of the way I was
trying to match them to the music, but I could have easily had two shots
rather than one in certain places to make the film more interesting and
to keep it moving.
On
a completely different note, I learned that the reveal with the owl
under the cookie worked. When I was editing the footage, I accidentally
cut the end of the shot, and I ended up with just the owl on the screen.
I thought it was neat that its bright yellow eyes appeared from behind
the cookie, and I kept it thinking that it was a visually appealing and
unexpected reveal. It worked!
I'll be back in a week!
