Process Diary: Final Project Week 1

WWEEK 11 OF GOA FILMMAKING:K 11 OF GOA FILMMAKING:
In week 11 of my GOA Film course, we have begun working on our final projects in which we can do whatever we choose. Mine is to be about my move from Seattle to London, which will take place tomorrow, 30 Nov. 2017. I have shot lots of footage in Seattle, and I am considering shooting some in London as well. I will do most of the editing in my new home across the pond. Here's a quick video of me sharing what I accomplished in the first week for my classmates:

At the beginning of this week, I realized that I had an idea for the subject of my film, but that I didn't really know what I wanted it to be about. This move, while exciting for me, has been a lot of other people telling me how to feel about it. Between other students telling me things and asking random questions (like "don't you know how bad that is for your college applications?" uh, I'm a sophomore so I'm not really thinking about that right now), to adults telling me what it was like when they lived in England, I haven't really thought about what this move means to me. I think it has to do with the opportunity and how much I've wanted to live in London for the past I don't know how many years, but I need to figure it out.

After watching the video above, my classmates and teacher helpfully warned me that there is a very specific format for a movie like this. In addition, I was told that the B-roll footage shouldn't match the voice over, because it forces the audience to link the two things together and makes them more interested.

And now I gotta go to bed because it's one in the morning over here.

Zzzzzzzzzz...
