London: The Tourist's Eye vs The Resident's Eye

TWO DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES:

I'm back! Well technically I've been back for several weeks, stealthily tidying up posts and trying to make this blog easier to navigate, but this is my first post in months.

I thought I'd start off my return with an overview of where my artistic eye has been looking these past few months. Scrolling through my photos, I noticed there has been a big change between the photos I took two years ago on my vacation in England and the photos I've taken over these past seven months.

I think that the pictures from my trip two years ago are aesthetically appealing; however, I also noticed that they are more focused on capturing the subject in them rather than on lighting, colour, placement, etc. In addition, they are more static than the types of pictures I take now and lack variety in the areas mentioned in the previous sentence. Below is a video with some examples of the types of shots I used to take:

On a different note, the photos I have taken since my filmmaking class are more focused on details. They are dynamic, with vivid colours, interesting placements, and good lighting. The biggest change I now see in my photos, however, is that they tell a story. While I still take pictures of static buildings, I find that I am more attentive to the way the light hits the building and the details on its exterior. Furthermore, I am more likely to shoot people and animals that I was before. There is an acceptance of movement in some of my shots, and it keeps the eye focuses on them for longer. Below are some examples of my favourite shots from my time here in London:

I'll be back soon.
