Le Musée d'Orsay

FILMMAKING IN FRENCH CLASS (PART III)

French class served as my creative outlet. This project — again from Freshman year — asked us to make a video report on a museum in France. I was assigned the Musée d'Orsay, now my favorite museum, although I had not visited it at the time.

This project is less a film and more a slideshow with audio. Nevertheless, it still demonstrates skills necessary in filmmaking. The first is (obviously) audio: I had to record myself and sync the visuals to what I was discussing, while ensuring that the audio levels were at an appropriate volume. Unfortunately, due to the limit on the length of the video (2:30 and mine is 2:29) and my own stubbornness (I refused to cut content) I spoke too quickly and I am somewhat incoherent. For that my teacher docked quite a few marks.

However, I do remember being proud of the visuals. They are nothing complicated — slides created in PowerPoint so that multiple images could be shown on the screen at once. I no longer find them as sophisticated as I did then, but my video was certainly more visually engaging than those of my peers. Here is my final project:

Oh if only I was in Paris at the Musée d'Orsay right now. A girl can dream.
