Talking Talking Talking (Jigyasa Anand)
LEARNING TO COLOUR
'Talking Talking Talking' premiered at the first OUFF Short Film Festival (2022) and the Director asked if I could re-edit the film over the summer.
We began by having several meetings about what she wanted changed and what she was looking for. I then created mood boards of different font types and colour palettes (there are intertitles throughout the film), as well as different palettes for the colouring of the film.
I recut the film over two days (it is about five minutes long). This was relatively simple given the length of the short and the Director wanted it to be about 70% similar the original cut. The only scene I struggled
with was at the end: a chair is thrown and it does not land in the same place in any of the shots. I was eventually able to navigate this by cropping the shots so that the chair is not visible after it is initially thrown.

We went back and forth a few times with the colour edit until the Director was happy. I personally preferred the more contemporary and saturated look that I designed at the Director's request, but it is her film and I was happy to adapt it into the more retro palette that she later decided would be better. This was my second attempt at colouring – and the first short that I have had to colour. It is something that I find difficult to learn, and I am proud of the outcome.
I struggled with the sound editing (this is not something I enjoy, nor do I really know how do it). The climax of the film was shot on a busy street at rush hour, so there are many cars passing by. We decided it would be best to find a Sound Editor so the film is the best quality it can be.
