POSH Trailer

 EMETOPHOBIA

My friend Luke, The Marketing Manager for a production of POSH, asked if I could help film a trailer for the show. The conception (which I did not know until I arrived for filming) was: the rich / posh characters messily eating food over a classical score. The idea, in principle, is very clever; it plays with both the plot and connotations of the show (a group of posh obnoxious male students at a dinner event). The shots were also simple: they were all on a tripod, and we did one close up and one medium shot for each actor.

In practice, the idea was a little cruel. The food options for the cast were grim... cold soup, lettuce, unappealing pâté... the list goes on. The cast were all amazing and quickly overcame their initial discomfort, delivering strong performances and enjoying themselves in the process. The whole thing was certainly funny – except both the disgusting food options and the sloppy spilling and smearing of the food made me very nauseous. Once I positioned the camera for each shot, I tried not to watch. It was not really the narrative for me.

Fortunately, I did not have to edit the trailer. I have not watched it and I do not plan to, but I hear that it was very successful.
