Dead Man's Suitcase Trailer
WATCH AND SEE, AS A MAN...
This trailer was filmed for Triple Cheque Productions' original musical, Dead Man's Suitcase, which will be performed at the Burton Taylor Studio from the 29th of November to 3rd of December 2022. The play follows an obituary writer who fakes his death to pursue his dreams as a fiction writer. However, when he accidentally encounters his wife (he is in disguise), he begins to rethink his decision. The production company wanted a trailer to market the show that would work with one of the original songs. Together we designed a shot list that featured the protagonist packing the suitcase and embarking on his new life. I joked that I wanted a fog machine to add mystery to the shots and they delivered!
We filmed in the Teddy Hall graveyard (I was reluctant to do another trailer shoot in a black box as I had just filmed the Skin and Troy Story trailers). We struggled with the fog machine but eventually got it working and those are my favourite shots. The light interacts with the fog beautifully, and they leave it visually unclear where the protagonist is leaving to (therefore implying the viewer should go watch the show to learn more).
This was very a simple edit because there were only a handful of shots. I did two drafts (they sent me their notes after the first one) and then it was finished!
