OUCD Showcase Photos

LIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

After filming the Oxford University Contemporary Dance team's trailer in January, they asked me to be the photographer for the dress rehearsal of their showcase. I had never done photography for sports before; I am more familiar with posed photography. I used my Fuji Film camera (2012) – I raised the shutter speed to capture shots faster and with less blur. Honestly my strategy was to take as many shots as possible and hope that I got some good ones.

I definitely got some terrible and unflattering ones – some of these were fun shots to send to the team. I also got some that I'm really happy with! I don't know that the experience taught me much given that I didn't have much time to learn and adjust; however, the rehearsal I did beforehand (i.e. reading to change the shutter speed) was beneficial. My camera is not necessarily ideal for this type of photography as it doesn't do well it low light (I can't adjust the shutter speed by much); I also don't have a lot of zoom in the lens. I'm sure some of this is my own lack of expertise with cameras and that I will become more confident with it the more I use it.
